Job scope:

The Co-Occurring Psychiatric and Substance Use Disorder Specialist I/II (COPSD)under the supervision of the unit manager assists individuals to lead lives of dignity and independence through the provision of intensive stabilization and engagement services to individuals who exhibit symptoms of co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders and who have not adequately responded to traditional mental health and/or substance use services that has resulted in symptomatic worsening of one or both disorders. Specific services shall include:

· Engagement strategies with systemic linkage to outpatient substance use and mental health services, detoxification, and intensive residential substance use services, ACT services, psychiatric medication clinic, transitional housing and community based rental subsidies, psychiatric rehabilitation services and mobile crisis intervention 24/7.

· Intensive & Integrated Symptom Management Services to promote stabilization.

· Crisis Resolution and/or specialized support service within existing substance use and mental health treatment programs.

· Medication Management (limited)

· Other related services necessary to promote stabilization and engagement strategies.

· Individual counseling provided by QCC or counselor intern under the supervision of a QCC.  A QCC shall practice within their scope of practice.

The COPSD Specialist networks with allied service providers in order to expand treatment options and facilitate continuity of care.  They also complete required written and electronic documentation within established guidelines.  COPSD Services are provided in 23 counties so travel is required.

Education/licensure:

Bachelor's Degree in Human Services related major that qualifies as a QMHP and one year relevant substance use service experience or completion of LCDC course work may substitute for experience; or current valid Texas licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor-Intern and one year relevant mental health experience.

Current valid driver's license in state of residence.

Experience/Knowledge:

Have demonstrated knowledge of providing assessment, education and support services, substance use counseling, symptom management, crisis management and prevention, service coordination, adaptations of COPSD services with the Stage of  Change applications and/or support and education to family to persons with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders who display high risk behaviors.  Must have basic understanding and knowledge of Motivational Interviewing techniques.  Knowledge of Microsoft word and Excel and ability to type a minimum 30 wpm.

Physical requirements that are bona fide occupational qualifications essential to the performance of the job:

Mobile and able to bend and reach for an 8 to 12 hour day.

Must be able to travel by automobile for up to 6 hours daily.

Visual and auditory acuity level must be sufficient to evaluate, treat and monitor client needs.

Work endurance for an 8 to 12 hour day in which hours may vary and weekend/after hours on call required.

Minimum Hiring Hourly Salary: $20.00
