Job scope:

Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing (DON) and the RCSU RN Nurse Manager is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to meet the needs of patients in the Rapid Crisis Stabilization Unit (RCSU) (involuntary extended observation unit and voluntary crisis residential unit) according to the professional standards of nursing care.  The Registered Nurse assures that the philosophy, mission, objectives, policies and procedures of the RCSU and Community Healthcore are followed.  The RN is responsible for delivering quality patient care, delegates appropriately, demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with others in communication and problem resolution, and is sensitive to the needs of patients, families and fellow co-workers.  The position provides nursing care to individuals with a mental illness and/or a co-occurring substance use/abuse diagnosis along with individuals with a dual diagnosis of mental illness and intellectual or developmental disability. Duties include but are not limited to direct and indirect nursing care. The RN utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement and document nursing care provided to patients under the requirements of the Texas Nurse Practice Act and in accordance with nursing licensure standards and established policies and procedures of Community Healthcore.  The RN works to ensure the safety of patients, staff and visitors.

Education/licensure:

Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.  Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas; Current CPR certification; Current valid driver's license in state of residence.

Experience/Knowledge:

Demonstrates knowledge of standards of nursing practice for Registered Nurses; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).  Working knowledge of licensing standards for Rapport Crisis Stabilization Unit (RCSU). 1 year experience preferred in Nursing/Mental Health.

Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations; must respond quickly and effectively.  Must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversations and foot traffic.  Must be flexible and able to complete tasks assigned in a timely manner.  Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp and display accurate perception of objects (size, shape, temperature, texture). 

Must be able to perceive detailed information through written and oral communication. 

Position requires carrying of charts and assisting with patients (up to 50 lbs.).  Must be able to verbalize information and respond to complaints. Must have minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that enables completion of tasks/duties and visual observation of patients. Must be able to attend meetings.  Must have endurance to work an average 8-hour day - 12 hours may be required on isolated occasions.

Must be physically able to complete Satori Alternative to Managing Aggressive Behavior (SAMA), CPR, and First Aid.  Must have a driving record insurable by the CHC's insurance administrator.
