Veterans Family Peer Navigator | Longview

Job scope:  

Under the supervision of the East Texas Veteran's Resource Center (ETVRC) Program Supervisor, the Veteran Peer Support Specialist will assist Veterans to lead lives of dignity and independence by helping the veteran address issues related to mental health and/or co-occurring disorders. The Veteran Peer Support Specialist shall provide outreach and engagement activities to veterans within the catchment area and participate with community partners in outreach events. The Veteran Peer Support Specialist will provide individualized supportive contact to facilitate successful engagement with community resources related to improving veteran wellness, wellbeing and successful metal health outcomes. Responsibilities may include facilitating veteran peer-to-peer groups, one-on-one support for veteran and linkage to non-clinical therapies. 

Education/licensure:

Must have high school diploma or GED.  Current valid driver's license in state of residence with acceptable driving record.

Experience/Knowledge:

Veteran status or first-degree family member, preferred.  Must have a working knowledge of military culture as well as how to access the VA system and community resources.  Lived experience with mental health and/or co-occurring disorders to meet certified peer support specialist. 

Physical requirements that are bona fide occupational qualifications essential to the performance of the job:

Position has requirements to perform lifesaving activities such as CPR and SAMA techniques.
