ESC Resource Counselor | Kilgore

Job scope: Serve as a liaison between Region 7 Education Service Center (ESC) and the Local Mental Health Authorities for the ESC service area. Increase awareness and understanding of mental health and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Assist school personnel in the implementation of initiatives related to mental health or substance use. Will be required to obtain and maintain Mental Health First Aid Instructor certification. Facilitate trainings at the ESC including Mental Health First Aid, the impact of grief and trauma, and supporting children with intellectual or developmental disabilities who are impacted by grief or trauma. Link school personnel to local mental health and substance use programs for children and adolescents as well as prevention and intervention programs related child and adolescent to alcohol, cigarette, illicit drug, and prescription medication misuse. 

Education/licensure: Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field.  Licensed in the State of Texas as an LPC, LMFT, or LCSW.   Current valid driver's license in state of residence.

Experience/Knowledge: Experience and knowledge of child and adolescent mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. Experience and comfort with public speaking to small, med, large groups in person and virtually. Ability to create presentations using a variety of Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Experience working in a school setting preferred. 

Physical requirements that are bona fide occupational qualifications essential to the performance of the job: Ability and strength to sit, bend, reach, and stand during an 8 to 10 hour day.  Able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds. Able to travel around a large service region.
