Accountant II
The Accountant II in a nonprofit setting is responsible for maintaining accurate accounts receivable records, including donor contributions, grants, and program fees. This role prepares and processes invoices for grant reimbursements and program billing, records and tracks incoming payments, and ensures deposits are accurately coded and posted to the appropriate funds, programs, and accounts. The Accountant II supports fund accounting functions by assisting in tracking restricted and unrestricted funds and performing regular reconciliations of bank accounts and other general ledger accounts as needed. Additionally, the position reconciles grant-related billing, expenditures, and reimbursements, and assists in preparing financial reports for management, funders, and auditors. The role requires maintaining well-organized and accurate documentation for audit purposes, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and grant requirements, and effectively communicating with program staff, donors, and funding agencies. The Accountant II also participates in month-end and year-end closing processes while upholding strict confidentiality and integrity in handling financial and donor information, and performs other related duties as assigned.
Education/licensure: Graduation from an accredited high school or completion of a GED is required, with some college coursework in business preferred or current pursuit of a degree in the accounting field.
Experience/Knowledge: The Accountant II must have strong computer and data entry skills, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency. Proficiency with a 10-key calculator, copier, and other standard office equipment is required. This role requires strong attention to detail, accurate work, effective verbal and telephone communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, vendors, supervisors, and the public. The position also requires strict compliance with organizational policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and donor information. Recent work experience in an accounts receivable and/or accounts payable position is preferred, along with a working knowledge of general bookkeeping and standard office procedures. This position will also require experience in Grant Accounting.
