Accountant III | Longview

Job scope: 

The Accountant III performs complex accounting and reporting functions, primarily in the areas of the balance sheet, general ledger, and federal/state grants and contracts.  This position is a cross-functional, multi-focus job serving in an assistant role to the Controller.  Work involves review and analysis of balance sheet and general ledger accounts, independent grant and contract reporting, determination of proper accounting treatment and cost allowable, reconciliation of accounts, data analysis, and preparation of specialized, complex cost reports and billings.  The Accountant III works under the supervision of the Controller, with a high level of responsibility and independent judgment in determining courses of action according to professional knowledge and experience.

Education/licensure: 

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.  2-3 years of recent responsible accounting experience preferred. 

Current valid driver's license in state of residence.

Experience/Knowledge: 

Must be detail-oriented and have critical thinking skills to analyze data, determine actions, and implement decisions.  Must work with a high degree of independence, self-motivation, and dependability.  Must possess problem solving and analytical skills for complex accounting tasks.  Must maintain effective relations with co-workers, supervisors, program staff, auditors, and funding agency staff.  Must maintain compliance with all standards of contractual specifications, mandatory training, client rights, licensing certifications, professional/ethical conduct, and other standards. Work experience in a governmental or non-profit organization helpful.  Must have substantial computerized accounting and excel spreadsheet experience.  A thorough knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles is required.
