Health Educator

Job scope:  

The Health Educator is a key member of the SAMHSA PREV-NET program.  To assist in preventing and reducing the onset and reduction of substance use issues with East Texas youth.  To build and strengthen prevention capacity and infrastructure with communities.  To utilize various evidence based programs, policies, and/or practices that best address the selected prevention priority.  To identify technical assistance and training needs and the development of responsive activities.  Will assess needs of communities for the purpose of developing programs to encourage those communities to make good health decisions.

Education/licensure:  

Graduate degree preferred, Bachelors required in public health, biostatistics, biology, behavioral studies,epidemiology, health services research, immunology or toxicology. Current valid driver's license in state of residence. Proof of automobile liability insurance and insurable by the Center insurance carrier.

Experience/Knowledge:  

Individual must understand and respect the lived experiences of others. Skill in using a computer to perform statistical analyses.  Skill in positive and constructive public relations.  Ability to prioritize activities and manage multiple responsibilities. 

Physical requirements that are bona fide occupational qualifications essential to the performance of the job:  Ability and strength to sit, bend, and reach during an 8 to 10 hour day.  Able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.  Sensory acuity sufficient to evaluate, treat, and monitor patient needs and maintain accurate records.  Fine motor skills sufficient to legibly document and communicate.
