MHFA Outreach Coordinator

Job scope: 

This position for the Mental Health First Aid Outreach Worker is to develop and foster relationships with key stake holders in the community including but not limited to school personnel, first responders, veterans, and higher education institutions, for the 9 counties in the Community Healthcore Catchment area as well as ESC catchment area for Regions 7 and 8. The Mental Health First Aid Outreach Worker is responsible for networking with key stake holders to increase awareness of MHFA training, increase the number of MHFA training sessions available, and increase the number of overall trainings completed. It is the responsibility of the Outreach Worker to ensure that all requirements listed in the HHSC Mental Health First Aid Contract are met. The Outreach Worker will be required to become a MHFA instructor and perform at least 3 MHFA trainings per year. The Outreach Worker will be responsible for tracking and reporting the number of people trained. This position is responsible for coordination and assigning instructors to training sessions, track instructor renewal anniversaries and ensure annual certification renewal requirements are met by each certified instructor. This position will work in closely with the Program Manager to fulfill duties and contract requirements and other duties as assigned. 

Education/licensure: 

High School Diploma or GED Certification required. Prefer Bachelor or Master's degree in Public Relations, Marketing, other related Communication Degrees, Education, Psychology, Social Work or other Human Service Fields. Current valid driver's license in state of residence.

Experience/Knowledge: 

Requires a basic understanding of mental illness, how to network with professional/community resources, and be able to present to groups as large as 30 people. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Will attend training to become a certified MHFA instructor. Must be versatile in utilizing a variety of computer systems including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Physical requirements that are bona fide occupational qualifications essential to the performance of the job:

Mobile and able to bend and reach during 8-12 hour day

Must be able to adequately complete SAMA, First Aid and CPR training

Work endurance sufficient to work an 8-12 hour day

Transportation to be able to travel throughout the catchment area
